How to Make a Jobs Website
Online job searching has become as natural as faxing your resume or going to an employment agency when seeking employment. Creating a job website will further increase the opportunity for employers to seek employees and is another method for job seekers to market their expertise for employment.
Instructions
Difficulty:
Step 1
Research the top job search engines to get an idea of what makes their site successful. Visit Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com to see their interface and set-up. If you have not already registered with these websites, sign up to find out their sign-up process, the ease of use, navigation and other aspects of the site that are not perfect. This information will allow you to integrate what's working into your website and improve upon what is not working on theirs.
Step 2
Purchase a domain name for your website. The domain name is the website's address (yourjobsite.com). You can purchase a domain name by going to sites like godaddy.com. There is typically an annual fee to register your domain name, and the cost is generally as low as $1.99 and up. ".com" is the most widely used domain extension. Consider purchasing ".net," ".info" and ".biz" as well.
Step 3
Obtain web hosting for your website. Web hosts are responsible for maintaining the traffic and storing all of the content of your website for a monthly cost. Web hosting is highly competitive so expect to pay as little as $3 per month and up for your web hosting. Hostgator.com is an example of a web host. You can also visit Webhostinggeeks.com to obtain a list of popular web hosts so you can compare and contrast which one fits your budget and needs.
Step 4
Design your website. If you have a general idea of website design you can use software "xcitepro" or "Site-build-it" to build your own website. You can also hire a freelance web designer from sites like Guru.com and Getafreelancer.com to design your site. Based upon your budget you will have bids from people either within your country or outside the country willing to design your site.
Step 5
Find employers to post on your website. You can contact large employers' human resources department to start posting jobs on your site and/or you can transfer the information from sites like Craigslist.org. As the popularity of your site increases, more employers will automatically want to post their job openings. Also contact headhunters who might be willing to post job ads.
Step 6
Advertise to job seekers once you have a list of viable employers. You can place ads in newspapers and magazines, and use radio to advertise your website as well.
